Missionaries:      BRIAN & SANDY ROBINSON

With H*VMI Since: Brian 1982; Sandy 1986 (status changed to volunteer in 2009)
Brian & Sandy Robinson

What we do at H*VMI:

  • Brian served as Handi*Camp Director from 1985-2009, continuing the growth of the camping program started and directed by Tim Sheetz the first 11 years. Summer 2010 began the transition to Chuck Gregory as the next Handi*Camp Director, with Brian serving as an Assistant Director. Brian also serves as H*VMI Office Manager.

  • Sandy assisted Brian in leading the camping ministry in many ways through the years while also being a great mom to our children. She still enjoys teaching Bible club lessons through Discipleship Ministries at Elwyn Institute two times a month, the place she got her start in Handi*Vangelism way back in 1984 while a student at Philadelphia College of Bible (now PBU). Currently she works for Berks County Intermediate Unit as an ASL Educational Interpreter for Deaf kids in public schools.

About Us:

Family: We met through H*VMI when Sandy started her Christian Service experience in the ministry while at PCB. We started dating in the spring of 1985 and Sandy came to Handi*Camp as a staffer that summer. We were engaged in August and married on April 5, 1986. After living in Delaware County (PA) for 16 years, we moved west to New Holland May 2002 as a result of BCM International's move (including the Handi*Vangelism ministry) to their new offices in Akron. Our home church is Aldan Union back in Delaware County. We currently worship and serve in Calvary Church here in Lancaster.

Our son Kyle was born during Handi*Camp in 1989 and daughter Jessica was born the day after we arrived home from camp two years later (pretty funny timing for a camp director, isn't it?). They grew up as camp kids and have each now served on the camp staff for several years. In March 2002, two sisters, Alicia (born March, 1994) and Kisha (born October, 1994), came into our home as foster children. We completed their adoption August 31, 2004. Both girls have varying disabilities and special education needs. We also have two kids in Heaven from pregnancy losses - Lindsey Renee (full-term stillbirth December 1987) and Peter (miscarriage August 1990).

August 2010 Update: Kyle works in a group home with Friendship Community here in Lancaster County, works two days a week as a PCA for an adult man with a disability and is a volunteer EMT with New Holland Ambulance. He will be married to Leah Hill on Nov. 27, 2010 (they met at Handi*Camp as staffers in 2008). Jessie in continuing college as a nursing student at Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences and has a part-time job with Friendship Community in a group home. Alicia will be in 10th grade in Lancaster County Christian School's Life Skills class. Kisha returns to the Life Skills class at Garden Spot Middle School.

Hobbies: Brian enjoys reading, bike riding, doing home improvement projects, watching TV (lots of sports!) and spending time with Sandy and the kids. Sandy is also an avid reader, likes to garden, cook and spend time with a growing number of Deaf friends and enjoys a busy family life. An interest in sign language has become more than a hobby as Sandy returned to school and completed an Associate degree in ASL/English interpreting.

Background: Brian graduated from Penn State in 1980 with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation and completed a one-year Concentrated Bible Course at Lancaster Bible College in 1982.

Sandy graduated from Kean College (NJ) in 1984 with a degree in Special Education and completed a one-year Bible Enrichment program in 1985 at PCB. Her 2009 Associate degree in interpreting is from Community College of Philadelphia (lots of trips from New Holland during three busy years!).

Our Life Verse: "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." (1 Cor. 15:58)

Please Pray for Us:   (Click on Our Newsletter below for more specific requests.)

  • Handi*Camp's 2010 transition summer was a good one - thank the Lord with us! Pray for Chuck and Julie as they continue building a prayer and support team and then as Brian and Chuck work together through more of the "off-season" parts of the leadership transition. Pray for Brian's ongoing role assisting Chuck in his new position.
  • Pray for Sandy as she teaches God's Word to the residents at Elwyn Institute - that hearts and lives would be changed. Pray, too, for her ministry to Deaf kids and fellow staffers in the public school where she's working.
  • Pray for wisdom for Brian's role as Office Manager in keeping equipment in good repair, supplies on hand and assisting others in the office with tasks as he's able.
