What we do at H*VMI:
|
About Us:
Family: I (Kyle) was raised in a Christian home by my parents, Brian and Sandy Robinson, surrounded by H*VMI through Handi*Camp. Once I was old enough I began to work at camp as a service staff and camp counselor. This is where I met my lovely wife Leah. She was also raised in a Christian home with her parents, Wayne and Janice Hill and her brother and sister, Wayne and Rachel. We worked at camp for a few years and then in November 2010 were married. We are living in Lititz on a farm where we rent an apartment.
Hobbies: Kyle's hobbies are bike riding, basketball, fishing, and hunting. Some of Leah’s hobbies are bike riding, swimming and hiking.
Background:
Kyle: As previously mentioned I was raised around H*VMI, which meant that I had a lot of interaction with people with disabilities all my life. I have worked at camp since I was fifteen or sixteen doing service staff work and being a counselor to the campers that come. After high school I went to Lancaster General College doing some general courses but in that time God steered me away from that field. I later took a course to be an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and I volunteered with a local ambulance service for some time. I then began to work at Friendship community (a residential home provider for people with disabilities) and I have worked there for over two years now. I also am a PCA (Personal Care Assistant) for a man out of his home. This man has muscular dystrophy and requires day to day in home care. Both of these jobs have taught me a lot about working with people with disabilities in their day to day lives.
Leah: I started at H*VMI as a Handi*camp counselor. I was going to school for criminal justice but fell so in love with caring for people with disabilities. I changed my major to nursing that next year, and now I am a certified LPN. I immediately dove into working with people with disabilities in my field of nursing at a Psychiatric hospital. I worked there for almost a year before getting a great job as a nurse for a young woman with mental and physical disabilities as well as some health challenges. I go to school with this young lady, helping her with her daily school routines and regulating her health concerns. I created a system for this young woman so she can learn to self regulate and function in class more independently. I am thoroughly enjoying this new job as it perfectly blends my nursing degree and my desire to serve people with disabilities.
Our Life Verses:
Leah’s life verse is: Philippians 4:13 - “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Kyle’s life verse is: Ephesians 2:8-9 - “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
