Romans 8:17 – “ and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

The past few months I have suffered with some physical and spiritual trials. I have spent time listening to, encouraging, and praying with many women who are suffering from physical, emotional, and spiritual trials. I have seen women suffer because of the abandonment and betrayal of friends. Others suffering because of the rebellion of their children or the fact that their children still don’t have a personal relationship with Christ. Some women are suffering because their children have medical issues with no answers. Some are suffering at their places of work because of their testimony for Christ. Others are suffering in bad or loveless marriages and trust the Lord each day for His love and grace to keep their marriage vows. Some are suffering the death of a child or loved one.

We have all kinds of suffering in our lives, the lives of our loved ones and in the world around us. In John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world.”

I have seen these women allow the Lord to walk with them through their journey of grief, hurt and pain. In spite of all that has been happening to them, they surrendered all and have remained close to the heart of God. What a testimony of encouragement and blessing it has been to me as I have watched each of them glorify God in the midst of their trials.

Near to the Heart of God – Lyrics:

There is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God;
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of comfort sweet,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where we our Savior meet,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of full release,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where all is joy and peace,
Near to the heart of God.

Psalms 73:25-28 – “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For behold, those who are far from You shall perish; You put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to You. But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.”

I don’t know what trials and suffering you are facing today, but I pray God will fill you with His courage and you will stay close to His heart and glorify Him.
